Blogger Yoani Sanchez posted an interview with President Obama on her blog Generacion Y which challenged Cuba’s strict policies on the freedom of speech. Her blog has become the most original and influential voice of Cuba’s internet. The blog is filled with daily criticism and annoyances with everyday life in communist Cuba. She has also just recently won the Marioa Moors Cabot citation from Columbia University for Journalism

Three months ago Miss Sanchez submitted questions to Mr. Obama concerning Raul Castro’s regime and suppression of the flow of information. Castro’s officials are stumped as to how to deal with the circulation of ideas over restricted internet access

Ms. Sanchez states that she was captured by the Cuban secret police, put into the trunk of a car and beaten. This experience was posted on her blog as well as some photos of the Poilce outside of Ms. Sanchez’ s residence.

It is great to see a fellow blogger gain some recognition for their work. It goes to show you that the internet is a wonderful tool for broadcasting ideas. The popularity of online journalism is rising daily, and Obama just gave it a huge boost in his response.

This story should inspire all bloggers to continue writing. If your voice is intelligent enough, and your ideas are original, your voice will be heard!
