The world loves online communication. Increasing popularity in social media will result in a progressive movement away from the use of email in the workplace. It has become just as easy to send someone a private message on Facebook, or post on someone’s “Wall”, as sending an e-mail. Link sharing has become more efficient as well. Share a link, and it is instantly accessible by any of your “friends” or co-workers. Everyone, for the most part, is on facebook all of the time anyway. Add a better instant chat, and a few megabytes of storage space, and we wont have a need for any other web platforms. The first Social Media site that can successfully integrate ftp space (file uploading and storage) with their social media platform, will take a significant market share away from popular email services.
I am not postulating that E-mail will disappear completely, due to the older generation's usage. But the younger generation, on the other hand will progress with the upcomming innovative technology.
A second movement in the messaging world is from SMS messaging to data messaging. I currently own a Blackberry Curve equipped with a Verizon unlimited Data plan for $30.00. Just recently, I downloaded the new Blackberry messenger 5.0. The software looks great and is very user friendly. The most creative feature is the new barcode scanner which quickly adds other BBM users to your contact list. Messaging using this program is seemless, and instant. Ontop of that, its cheaper. If everyone begins to use a data messaging plan there will be no use for text messaging. It is only a matter of time before data messaging will crush SMS.
